Single-Visit Crowns (CEREC)

You may have heard about crowns used to rejuvenate your smile by protecting your weak, cracked, or discolored teeth. However, many people in Albany don’t like to get crowns because it takes 2-3 visits and a few weeks to install. There’s also the messy impression to take and a temporary cap to wear for some time. Dr. Steven Kobayashi now offers a much quicker and better cap option called single visit crowns that are fabricated using CEREC technology.

What Is CEREC?

CEREC is the acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics that works on CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) technology.

It is an advanced dental technology used for restoring decayed, chipped, or cracked teeth. You can get your crown measured and crafted in a single visit, instead of taking multiple visits.

A small, hand-held camera, a computer, and a milling unit work together to mill restorations in–house. The technology is used to not only craft full crowns, but also veneers, bridges, onlays, and inlays.

They are made using high-quality metal and mercury-free compressed porcelain material and even zirconia to match your tooth color.

The Procedure

The CEREC restoration procedure is so much quicker, when compared to a regular crown.

Here’s how Dr. Kobayashi will create your CEREC crown:
· The first step involves removing any signs of tooth decay from the tooth to be crowned.
· Next, Dr. Kobayashi shapes the tooth to the required shape so that it’s ready to be digitally photographed.
· The said tooth is then sprayed with a very fine powder. The powder enables the digital camera to capture a precise image.
· The camera captures the 2D or 3D images of the affected tooth and its surrounding area.
· The image is then transferred and displayed on the color computer screen.
· Dr. Kobayashi next designs the perfect restoration crown right in front of you using the 3D picture and the special CEREC software.
· The software then sends the virtual restoration data to the milling unit to mill the crown on site in just fifteen minutes.
· Dr. Kobayashi now bonds the ready crown onto the surface of the prepared tooth. It helps create a ‘new’ tooth, and rejuvenates your smile.

The entire process takes just about an hour, and you can actually see the crown being made in front of your eyes.

Benefits of CEREC Single-Visit Crowns to Albany Residents

Some benefits and reasons make CEREC a much better tooth restoration option than traditional crowns. They are:
1. They are compatible with the mouth tissue and are anti-abrasive and plaque-resistant in structure.

2. CEREC technology produces not just crowns but also onlays, inlays, and veneers.

3. The crown is ready and complete within a few minutes, in front of your eyes.

4. It’s even more substantial than the regular laboratory restorations made from layered porcelain.

5. Your crown is ready in a simple visit. It doesn’t need multiple visits to make, like traditional crowns do.
6. There are no hassles of biting into anything messy to create impressions, or any temporary crowns to wear.

7. Comfortable and stress-free

8. The advanced CAD/CAM technology can produce a compressed porcelain crown. It’s not only challenging to make but also a perfect match in color and shape to your existing tooth.
